IQNA – The parliament speakers of Muslim countries reiterated the need for the Zionist regime to be prosecuted in international courts for its crimes against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

An extraordinary meeting of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PUIC) on Gaza was held in Tehran on Wednesday.

The conference opened at the Azadi Hotel in Tehran this morning with the participation of parliament speakers and senior parliamentary officials from the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

They are from Oman, Lebanon, Kuwait, Tunisia, Qatar, Mali, Senegal, Chad, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Malaysia, Syria, Iraq, Mauritania, Ivory Coast, Algeria, and Morocco, among others.   

Algeria’s Parliament Speaker Ibrahim Boughali in his address called on politicians and freedom-lovers in the world to make efforts to take the Israeli regime officials to international courts.

He said the Zionist regime continues committing crimes against defenseless people of Palestine and violating international laws and conventions.

Hence, he said, it is necessary to try Zionist officials in international courts.

Syrian Parliament Speaker Hamuda Sabbaq, in his speech, said the Palestinian cause is in the hearts of all Muslims, adding that Syria stands by the Palestinian nation and defends them.

Fahmi al-Za’arir, the deputy chairman of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), was another speaker at the meeting. He emphasized the need for Muslim countries to support the Palestinian nation.

He also slammed normalization of ties with the Zionist regime by some Muslim countries, saying it means concession to Israel to continue murdering Palestinians.

Al-Za’arir said since the launch of its onslaught against the Gaza Strip, Israel has dropped tons of bombs and explosives on people and keeps its raids on al-Quds and the West Bank, while desecration of Al-Aqsa Mosque continues.

He further rejected the idea of forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza and said the Palestinian nation will continue its struggle against the occupation and aggression.

First Deputy Speaker of Iraq’s parliament Mohsen al-Mandalawi in his speech described the meeting as a sigh of Muslim nations’ resolve to defend the people of Palestine and condemn the Israeli regime.

He urged Muslim world’s parliaments to take measures through their governments for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the massacre of Palestinians in Gaza.

He also said humanitarian aid must enter Gaza before it is too late.

Al-Mandalawi further thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for supporting and helping Palestine.

Next, Cheikh Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass from Senegal, who is the Secretary General of the PUIC, addressed the meeting, saying that in these sensitive conditions where the Israeli regime has launched an all-out war of aggression against the Palestinian nation, the Muslim world should fulfill their responsibility of helping the people of Gaza.

He also said that Muslim and non-Muslim nations are waiting for decisive decisions in this meeting in Tehran.

Other speakers reiterated the need to use all possible means to bring an end to the war on Gaza and bring the perpetrators of genocide against Palestinians to justice.

The Israeli regime’s brutal onslaught on the Gaza Strip which began on October 7 has killed more than 23,000 people, mostly women and children, and wounded nearly 60,000 others.
