IQNA – An official with Bahrain’s main opposition group, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, underlined the Bahraini people’s support for the Palestinian people and the cause of Palestine.

Al-Wefaq Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Hussein al-Daihi

Al-Wefaq Deputy Secretary General Sheikh Hussein al-Daihi condemned the Israeli war crimes being committed in the Gaza Strip, saying these brutalities are taking place before the eyes of the so-called advocates of human rights.

He deplored their attempts at portraying these Israeli atrocities as self-defense and depicting the Palestinian struggle against occupation as “terrorism”.

The Bahraini nation is among those defending the cause of Palestine, he underscored.

He also slammed those regime that cooperate with the Zionist entity, including the Manama regime, which “does not represent us (the Bahraini people)”.

Elsewhere in his remarks, al-Daihi referred to the violation of human rights in Bahrain, saying the Manama regime seeks to use every occasion and opportunity to repress the people and take political revenge on them.

That is why there is political tension in the country every now and then, he added.

He said human rights violations are widespread in Bahrain, adding that defending people’s basic rights and human dignity has become a major challenge in the country today.

Anti-monarchy demonstrations began in mid-February 2011 and have been held on a regular basis ever since the popular uprising started.

Demonstrators demand that the Al Khalifa regime relinquish power and that a just, democratic system representing all Bahrainis be established.

The Manama regime, however, has responded to demands for social equality with an iron fist, clamping down on voices of dissent.
