Hardan, who is also a qari, told IQNA in an interview that the civil war in Syria has not affected Quranic activities and teaching the Holy Book negatively.

He said the crisis has even caused more people to resort to the Quran and led to boosting Quranic activities.

With the grace of God, Syria has seen an unprecedented and great Quranic movement and there is a growing trend of Quranic activities in the country, he stated.

Asked about his own Quranic activities, he said he started learning Quran recitation at the age of 6 and then began memorizing the Holy Book at 13.

He said it took him 15 years to learn the entire Quran by heart.

Hardan noted that he had teachers in both learning memorization and recitation, underlining the importance of having good teachers on the path of Quran learning.

As for Quran teaching methods in Syria, he said it is mostly done the traditional way through Quranic circles in mosques.

He added that in teaching the Quran in Syria, a lot of attention is paid to teaching the rules of Tajweed and great importance is laid on getting skillful in Tajweed.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Hardan referred to the very tight race among contenders in Iran’s international Quranic event, saying the level of the competition was high.

He also said one of the main features of the contest was the number of specialties of members of panels of arbiters that led to greater precision in judgments.

The final round of Iran’s 39th International Holy Quran Competition kicked off here in Tehran last Saturday and concluded in a ceremony on Wednesday evening, where winners of different categories were named and awarded.
