Quran Competition for Seminary Students Wraps Up in Iraq

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The first edition of a Quran contest for seminary students in Iraq concluded with a ceremony in the holy city of Najaf on Wednesday.

The Quran Institute affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine organized the Quranic event, Al-Kafeel website reported.

Seminary students from Iraq and other countries took part in the competition.

The awarding ceremony, held at the conference hall of Imam Khoei Library in Najaf, was attended by a number of seminary and religious and academic figures.

Sayyed Muhnad al-Mayaly, the director of the Quran Institute, said the seminary students competed on recitation and memorization of the Holy Book.

He added that 40 contestants made it to the final round, where Hissam Ala Jabbar, Mustafa Muhammad Abd, and Ali Akbar Muhammad Rasoul came first to third in recitation and Ali Reza Qolam Danesh, Sayyed al-Jawadain Ali Hassoun, and Hussein Safdar Mir Hussein won the top three ranks in memorization.

The competition’s panel of judges included several top Quran experts like Sheikh Mazar al-Sahhaf, Sheikh Mahdi al-Ameri and Sheikh Qudama al-Khizri.
