The copy, known as Mus’haf Othman, is held in a library in the neighborhood, Egypt’s Deputy Awqaf Minister Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Razzaq said in a TV interview, Al-Yawm Al-Sabi website reported.
He said the rare copy used to be held in Al-Hussain (AS) Mosque in Al-Darasa district but was taken to the library, which is a safer place.
The mosque’s board of trustees has recently called on Awqaf ministry to return the rare items, including the Quran copy that used to be kept in the mosque.
Al-Hussain (AS) Mosque was built in the 6th century Hijri (12th century A.D.) during the reign of Fatimid Caliphs in Egypt.
