Iran’s Judiciary Chief Underlines Need for Muslim Unity
Speaking at a meeting of senior Judiciary officials in Tehran on Monday, the senior cleric said Muslims following different schools of thought should focus on their commonalities to strengthen unity and counter Islam’s enemies.
He said colonial countries have long sought to divide Muslims and split up Muslim countries, he said.
They have intensified their divide and rule policy today, Ayatollah Amoli Larijani warned.
He expressed hope that rulers of certain regional countries take a judicious decision to listen to the Quranic call for unity and move toward enhanced Islamic unity.
The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the lunar Hijri calendar is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.
The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.
Late founder of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
This year it falls on November 20-25.
